Math teachers agree that one of the most common difficulties in learning math is the "trouble memorizing and recalling basic facts." Students generally understand math concepts but can produce inaccurate results when their calculations are based on faulty recall of math facts. Since all learning is based on memory, it is easier to retain and recall things that have meaning than it is for things that do not...thus the need for association. Association is the natural, as well as the easy way to assure instant recall. A basic technique for developing memory is to picture what you want to remember...to visualize. One of the easiest ways to visualize is through descriptive stories involving interesting characters.
